Round 2 Completed!

As we near the halfway point of the Beta League, players continue to try and jockey for a more favorable position going into the homestretch.

First, it should be noted that one person throughout all pools has managed to finish 1st or 2nd in all 8 games so far. Max Suddendorf (perhaps known as LightPinkYoshi to some), has achieved this feat and by doing so leads Pool C, though by not as much as you might think as Oliver Nguyen is right on his heels with just one 3rd place to his name. Strangely though, there was little movement by most of the players in the pool. The biggest jump was by Bret Lockerbie whose gain of 51.7 points moved him from the last playoff spot for the B1 League to the last spot of the A2 League. The haneman below in Game 1 of his set helped vault him to first place in the game and contributed greatly to his point gain for the round.

Conversely, Pool D probably had the most upheaval of the 4 as players in the middle were really grouped together. NYC Riichi Nomi’s leader Claire Pozniak after getting off to a slow start, jumped 10 spots to the last A2 League playoff spot with an almost 70 point effort. At the top while Round 1 leader Aaron Liao managed to slightly add to his total, Lucas LaPointe (already sitting in 3rd place) banked a whopping 105.6 points in Round 2, leapfrogging him into 1st place by over 30 points. One of those games was the following where while paying into 4 hands, won 5 of his own including 2 dealer hanemans which distanced himself from the rest of the table by miles.

Pool A is by far the most competitive pool of the 4. While Pool C does have quite a few more people closer to the top, Pool A only has a 70 point difference between the top spot and the last playoff spot for the A2 League. For everyone though, all is theoretically still to play for as current leader Sarah Allen was sitting in 13th with -32.4, and now sits atop the pool.

In Pool B, the top two merely switched places as Bichen had the upper hand in his matchup with Kinyan this past round - but both still did well enough to keep their relative positions. Jun Fan meanwhile was the big mover of the pool, jumping from 10th to 3rd with a net gain of 67.3 points.
